Lacquered Wardrobe Doors – Styles, Features & Custom Options
Urban Wardrobes specialises in lacquered finish exteriors, and most of our bespoke wardrobe ranges are based on this sprayed finish. We work with either MDF or oak veneer panels, which allows us to create various door shapes—including handleless, integrated handle designs, shaker style, doors with mirrors, fabric inserts, and many more. This flexibility makes our furniture designer-oriented, with almost no limitations in terms of door shape, design, colour, or finish.
Speaking about lacquered finishes, let’s first explain the difference between a spray-painted finish and a lacquered finish. A lacquered finish is a professional, multi-stage process carried out in our spray booth using specialised lacquer paints (PU or AC-based), which are specifically designed for furniture. This process gives the exterior a durable, hard-wearing finish that’s resistant to scratches and moisture. While matt lacquered finishes have been a strong trend over the past decade, we also complete projects in satin and high gloss finishes. Lacquering allows us to achieve a smooth, flawless surface with a premium, luxury feel. We can match any paint brand and also work with RAL and NCS colour palettes.
The term “spray finish” typically refers to simpler paint applications using standard tools—for example, when furniture is spray-painted on-site. This usually results in a less refined look and feel, with limited control over the finish consistency and durability.
Although these two terms are technically different, we often refer to our lacquered finish as a sprayed finish—while still delivering the look and quality of a professionally lacquered surface.

What Types of Lacquered Finishes Can Urban Wardrobes Offer?
Lacquered Wood Veneer
For a timeless and sophisticated look, we can offer fitted bedroom wardrobes with lacquered oak or walnut veneer fronts. This means we preserve the natural colour and texture of the timber while adding a protective lacquer layer to guard against scratches and moisture. These doors look especially beautiful with brass handles. As always, all our doors are made to measure and fully bespoke.
Painted Wood Veneer
If you’d like to keep the wooden texture but paint the doors in a specific colour, we can do that too. We can match any paint brand—like Farrow & Ball or Little Greene—and paint your oak veneer doors in the exact shade you want.
Lacquered Integrated Handle Designs
We offer integrated handle options including half-height, full-height, or even designs with wooden or metal inserts. In every case, the door is lacquered to the highest standard. You’ll have a wide range of options—not just in terms of handle shape and placement, but also in the choice of materials and colours for the inserts.
Lacquered Shaker-Style Exteriors
For a classic Victorian-style fitted wardrobe, we offer lacquered shaker-style doors. These pair beautifully with knobs and add a timeless touch to your bedroom interior. We have many shaker shapes to choose from—just send us your inspiration, and we’ll come back to you with a rough estimate.
Spray-Painted Doors with Inserts
We can create fitted wardrobes with framed door designs and rattan or fabric inserts. This lets you combine two very different elements—a lacquered frame in any colour and a natural insert material like rattan or fabric—for a completely custom look.
Lacquered Doors with Mirrors
One of our most iconic styles includes sprayed shaker doors with mirror inserts. We offer a wide selection of mirrors—silver, bronze, tinted, transparent, and more—and the frames can be sprayed in any colour. As always, everything is tailor-made to fit your space perfectly.
Fretwork Lacquered Doors
We can create any shape or design you need. These are a great choice for traditional or classic interiors—whether you’re furnishing a Victorian house or looking for that special touch in a period-style London apartment.
Final Thoughts
We genuinely believe that the variety of options with a lacquered finish gives us the freedom to take on an unlimited range of bespoke projects—and each time, we deliver something truly unique. That’s why Urban is trusted by our customers: we don’t work with pre-made furniture. Every piece is crafted from scratch and is one-of-a-kind by nature.
